Hikali Achumi, reigning Miss Nagaland 2022, launched her beauty with purpose project called ‘Period Positive’ at Christian High School, Noklak on 27 January.

The project has been launched in collaboration with Vikuonuo Sachu from The Miraculum Society, powered by BASN and The Silver Vision; Miss Sumi 2022, Linovi P Kiba; and Niloli Wotsa.

Period Positive targets not only women but also men to appreciate and support women’s bodies and the challenges they face every monthly cycle, Achumi said.

Stating that menstruation is a normal and regular event in every healthy adolescent girl child, she stated that drastic changes are needed to encourage positive social norms and ultimately enact behavioural change.

Through this movement, the reigning Miss Nagaland hoped that everyone will come together to spread positivity towards changing perspectives and accepting women of all kinds while making menstruation positive and not taboo.

Hoping that the launch of the project will be positive and empowering, Achumi stated that it is time to abolish the silence and shame that shrouds the natural biological event.
