The Departments of Commerce and Economics of MGM College jointly organised Business Plan Competition 2.0 on October 16, providing students with a platform to showcase their entrepreneurial ideas, creativity, business acumen and problem-solving skills.

Students from all seven departments participated in the competition, highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship as a multidisciplinary avenue for innovation, self-reliance and career development.

The programme was chaired by Lopilo P Yanthan, Head of the Department of Commerce, who welcomed the gathering and highlighted the objectives of the competition. She said the event was not merely a contest to determine winners but a practical learning experience aimed at nurturing entrepreneurial thinking, persuasive communication, strategic planning and professional skills.

Yanthan emphasised that such initiatives helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world market dynamics, enabling students to develop the confidence and competence to transform ideas into viable business ventures.

The presentations enabled students to explain their business concepts, identify market opportunities and demonstrate innovative approaches to potential business challenges.

The competition encouraged experiential learning, prompting students to explore the practical aspects of business planning, enterprise development and economic sustainability beyond conventional academic boundaries.

The Department of Education secured the first prize, while the Department of English won the second prize.

Kulungoi Tetseo, Head of the Department of Economics, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the organisers, judges, participating departments and students for their contributions. The programme concluded with a benediction by Mhonlumo T. Tsopoe.

The competition marked another step in MGM College’s efforts to promote practical, student-centred learning and prepare graduates for emerging professional challenges. It also underscored the importance of fostering innovation, critical thinking and collaboration to encourage young people to become not only employment seekers but also potential employment creators.
