Incidents of sexual assault on minor girls have been alarmingly increasing in Nagaland with the latest incident reported from Mokokchung where a 7-year old girl was sexually assaulted allegedly by one Nungshisajung Ani (26 yrs).

According to reliable sources, the crime is suspected to have been committed on June 26.

Following the incident the accused have been taken into custody and sent to judicial custody for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has condemned the sexual assault by Nungshisajung Ani and said this barbaric and inhuman crime is an unforgivable attack on the innocence of a child and a stain on the society.

Stating that such heinous acts have no place in a civilized community, the AKM demanded all concerned authorities to ensure a swift, impartial, and time-bound investigation and that Nungshisajung Ani, if convicted by the court, is awarded the maximum punishment under the law.

Crimes against children must be dealt with firmly and without delay, it stressed.

Expressing solidarity with the child and her family, the AKM urged the public to respect the victim’s privacy and dignity while allowing the legal process to proceed without interference.

AKM called upon every village authority, community leader, youth organization, and citizen to unite in the fight against crimes against women and children. It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and safety of every child and to ensuring that justice prevails.
