Following a recent altercation between school students that has gone viral on social media, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Welfare Committee, and Child Helpline Mokokchung promptly intervened to address the situation. A meeting was convened with the concerned school authority and discipline committee, resulting in a 15-day suspension for the students involved.

However, considering the potential impact of prolonged suspension on the students’ mental health and academic performance, the three organizations requested the school authority to reconsider the duration of the suspension.

Additionally, the DCPU, Child Welfare Committee, and Child Helpline Mokokchung visited the local police station to discuss the matter and obtain permission to provide counselling services to the suspended students at the DCPU office.

In a notice sent to parents, the DCPU announced that counsellors from the DCPU and Child Helpline will provide counselling to the suspended students, including those involved in the altercation and the three students who recorded and shared the incident on social media.

This collaborative effort aims to address the incident’s aftermath, support the students’ well-being, and promote a safe and conducive learning environment.”
