The monthly meeting of the Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) convened today, 19th February 2024, at the Rural Assembly Hall in Ungma village. Chaired by Tongpang Ozukum, Advisor Water Resources & Chairman DPDB, the session saw comprehensive discussions and resolutions on key community matters.
Fire Incident at MMC Shopping Complex
Following a report by the ADC & Administrator of Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) regarding the recent fire incident at the MMC Shopping Complex, DPDB resolved to evaluate expert findings from the National Institute of Technology (NIT). A technical committee, under the chairmanship of ADC & Administrator of MMC, was tasked to review the NIT report within two weeks, paving the way for further action.
Graveyard Space Concerns
The issue of limited space in Mokokchung’s graveyard prompted DPDB to pursue additional land allocation from landowners. Moreover, DPDB suggested that MMC formulate a policy to address the burial space scarcity faced by the town’s residents.
Waste Management and Segregation
Deliberations ensued on the reluctance of landowners to continue allowing their land for use as a dumping site. DPDB emphasized citizen education on waste segregation, stressing the collective responsibility of stakeholders. The concerned department was directed to engage with landowners and villagers to reconsider site usage while implementing measures to mitigate pollution.
Vision Mokokchung 2040
A resolution was passed for members to conduct an in-depth study on Vision Mokokchung 2040, signaling a commitment to future community development.
A presentation on the Mega Job Expo 2024 was delivered. The verification committee for the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) 2023-2024 was approved. The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung provided a report on the district’s participation in the Nagaland Olympic 2024.
Approval was granted for the up-gradation of Tsurangkong Primary Health Centre (PHC) to Community Health Centre (CHC).
The registration of the Mokokchung Athletics Association was endorsed and forwarded.
The meeting was attended by notable figures including NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer, Minister for Rural Development & SIRD Metsubu Jamir, Advisor for Law & Justice and Land Revenue T.N. Mannen, and Advisor for IPR and Soil & Water Conservation Imkong L. Imchen, reflecting a concerted effort towards holistic community development.
