Mokokchung Forest Division organizes sensitization programme at Changtongya Old village

In commemoration of World Environment Day 2026, the Mokokchung Forest Division organized a sensitization programme on biodiversity conservation under the Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya (Nagaland) Project (FBMP) on June 3 at Changtongya Old Village.

The project, co-financed by the Federal Republic of Germany through KfW Development Bank, focuses on strengthening biodiversity conservation and improving community livelihoods through sustainable forest management. The programme was conducted for the Batch-II villages of Unger, Akhoya, Changtongya Old and Nukshiyim. The programme was chaired by Mangli Jamir, while the invocation was pronounced by Salomi Jamir, Home Evangelist.

Delivering the keynote address, Moamongba, ACF, i/c Changtongya Beat highlighted the critical role of community participation in biodiversity conservation and sustainable natural resource management. He emphasized the need for collective responsibility in safeguarding ecosystems and strengthening conservation efforts at the grassroots level.

As part of the programme, Unger Village presented a special item, followed by a speech competition on the World Environment Day 2026 theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”

Sangpangchang Longkumer, SDO (Civil), Changtongya, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour and called for collective action towards environmental protection and sustainable development.

The programme also featured project experience-sharing sessions, wherein representatives of Nukshiyim CCA shared their project activities, while Akhoya CCA presented their experiences from a recent exposure visit. These sessions provided a platform for participants to exchange knowledge and learn from successful conservation initiatives.

A drawing competition on the same theme was also conducted for students prior to the main programme. The winners of the speech and drawing competitions were announced during the event by Moamongba, ACF, i/c Changtongya Beat.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Imemakok, Forester-I, followed by a community lunch.
