Just hours after a devastating fire razed four buildings at Lijaba Lijen Ward in Mokokchung, a forest fire broke out near Jubilee Memorial College in Aongza Ward, Mokokchung, on 16 March 2025.

According to Officer-in-Charge of the Fire Department, Mokokchung, Keleseho Stephen Tsükrü, the emergency call was received at 11:35 AM, reporting a jungle fire near Jubilee Memorial College, Aongza Ward. One water tanker (WT) with a sufficient crew from Fire Station North Mokokchung was dispatched to the scene, successfully containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to the college buildings. No casualties were reported.

Fire department sources stated that the fire was triggered by a spark from an overhead light wire, which ignited dry vegetation in a forested area belonging to the Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM). Strong winds and dry conditions caused the fire to spread rapidly, risking a threat to nearby properties, including the kitchen of Jubilee Memorial College and several residential houses.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick smoke billowing from the site as the fire spread towards the college area. Local residents also assisted in controlling the flames before firefighters arrived.

Due to the timely intervention of authorities and firefighters, the fire was successfully contained before it could cause further damage. The officials noted the need for preventive measures, such as clearing trees around power lines, to avoid similar incidents in the future.
