With an aim to combat substance abuse among the youth, Government Middle School Alempang in Mokokchung hosted a seminar today under the Nagaland Education Project- The Lighthouse – Nagaland Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resources (NECTAR). The seminar featured Dr Redina Ao, a dedicated Medical Officer from UPHC, Yimyu, Mokokchung as the esteemed resource person.

Dr Redina Ao delivered a compelling address, shedding light on the detrimental effects of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, and related intoxicants. She emphasized that the perilous journey into substance abuse often commences with peer pressure or stems from personal and family problems, leading individuals down a path of depression and reliance on illegal substances.
Highlighting the importance of making wise choices in friendships, Dr Ao encouraged students to distance themselves from negative influences and steer clear of destructive habits. She underscored the grave repercussions of substance abuse, including students dropping out of school, which not only burdens their families but also impacts society at large.
The seminar commenced with a warm welcome address by Head Teacher I. Tiamongla, setting the tone for an engaging and informative event. Yashila G/T chaired the program.
