The Mokokchung Town Square witnessed an evening of spiritual reflection and musical brilliance as the community gathered for the 2024 Watch Night Service on December 31, organized by Mokokchung Centric, A People’s Group.
Themed “Go Forth,” the event featured performances by several talented artists and bands, who captivated the audience with soulful renditions. The lineup included soloists like Tutu, Imnamen A Kichu Nekshikumla Kichu, Moawapang, Temsuakum Sangpi, Nokchala, Moa Imchen, Kohima, Bands, including Ajungben Band, The Muse, Imolemla Pongen featuring Cosmic Cassette, NL-02, Solace Divine, and the electrifying Force in Rhythm (FIR), took the stage.
Limasashi, President of All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT), addressed the gathering at the Watch Night Service in Mokokchung Town with a heartfelt message of gratitude and hope. He began by acknowledging the efforts of the Mokokchung Centric Group, describing them as a remarkable collective of individuals deeply passionate about Mokokchung. He commended their initiative in organizing the Watch Night Service, which reflected their dedication to the town’s well-being and community spirit.
Expressing his gratitude to the district administration, led by the Deputy Commissioner and his staff, along with the Police Department under the Superintendent of Police, Limasashi praised their tireless efforts in maintaining the town’s order and ensuring its continued progress. He further extended his thanks to the Mokokchung Municipal Council Chairman, the elected councillors, for their commitment to the development and governance of the town.
The AWUMT president also expressed his appreciation to organizations like Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang, AKM, OKM, and MLT for their support in times of need anytime.
He expressed acknowledgement to all the different organizations, District administration, well wishers and everyone who has supported the event through financial assistance, wisdom, and knowledge. He acknowledged the contributions of the security forces, traffic police, sound system team, and all participants who made the event a success.
However, Limasashi raised a concern about the fading tradition of organizing community programs in Mokokchung Town. He urged the community to come together to revive this culture and create better platforms for developing unity and progress. He emphasized that Mokokchung deserves such events to bring its people closer and inspire collective growth.
Concluding his speech, he encouraged everyone to carry forward the spirit of unity, dedication, and progress into the New Year. He wished everyone a blessed and prosperous 2025.
The highlight of the event was the midnight countdown, where the community rang in 2025 with the symbolic tolling of a bell, followed by joyous celebrations. The service concluded with a lively DJ session, ensuring a memorable start to the New Year.
Arenla Lemtur anchored the event and the night’s solemn invocation was led by Yanglu Pongen, Pastor of MTBA.
