The Wakching Area Students’ Union (WASU) conducted a surprise check in Wakching area in Mon district in a bid to crackdown on illegal activities, the union informed.

In the check held on 18 and 19 May 2023, WASU seized a total of 168 bottles/cans and 120 bottles of assorted Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). The union also “apprehended” three persons in this connection, it said.

The liquor was destroyed in the presence of Wakching Students’ Union, Wakching Town Students’ Union, Wakching Chingla Students’ Union, Konyak Union Wakching Unit, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) Wakching Unit and Public Organization Wakching HQ.

WASU has directed all its federating units “to take necessary precautionary measure to check the illegal flow of liquor/contraband or drugs within their jurisdiction and to initiate stern action against the defaulters.”

The union also cautioned that any vehicle carrying any kind of contraband or liquor within Wakching Area Jurisdiction will be penalized and subjected for the cancellation of license by the competent authority.
