Three days of incessant rainfall have severely affected normal life in Shamator district, triggering landslides, cutting off roads and damaging agricultural land in several areas.
According to reports, the town’s main water supply pipeline has been completely damaged due to massive landslides, disrupting water supply. Several roads, including the Shamator main road and the Chessore–Aghunato road, have also been blocked following landslides.
Extensive damage has also been reported to paddy fields at Kebeak under Y. Anner village in the Chessore area, while landslides along the Chessore–Shamator road have snapped road connectivity.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Arikumba, has issued a public advisory under Sections 26(2) and 30(2)(v) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, urging residents to remain vigilant and follow safety precautions.
The advisory urged the public to stay updated on weather forecasts by downloading the SAFER Nagaland application and to avoid flooded areas, bridges and water bodies during heavy rainfall.
Residents have also been advised to exercise extreme caution while travelling, particularly on roads vulnerable to flooding and landslides, postpone journeys during periods of poor visibility, and avoid travelling at night.

The administration further cautioned people to stay away from electrical power lines, especially in waterlogged areas, and immediately report any fallen or hanging power lines to the concerned authorities.
Citizens have also been urged to look after elderly persons, children and people with special needs and extend assistance wherever required.
In case of emergencies such as landslides, flooding, road damage or fallen trees, the public has been asked to contact the District Emergency Operations Centre (DEOC) at 7005092299.
