Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), S. Supongmeren Jamir, has made an appeal to the Government of India to implement and respond to the “Framework Agreement” and the “Agreed Position” which it had signed with the Naga national groups on 3rd August 2015 and 17th November 2017 respectively.
In a press statement, Jamir acknowledged the “sacrifices of the untold Naga National Workers, past and present” and said that the time has come for Nagas to ensure that the “hard fought agreements” not being “jeopardised but utilised as the basis to realise the long desired aspirations of the Naga people.”
The MP, who is also the President of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, also acknowledged the courage and wisdom of the past governments at the Centre that enabled the signing of the agreements. However, he reminded that the “arduous journey will come to a full circle only when the present Central Government honors the sanctity of these agreements by implementing it without any further delay.”
“Delayed implementation, risks and undermines the trust and hope that have been sacrificed and built over decades of negotiations,” Jamir stated, while emphasizing that it is “imperative to respect the core principles and objectives laid out in these Historic Agreements and recognise the rights and identity of us – Nagas.”
