Early this morning in Kiphire, around 4am, an unusual light of unknown origin towards the east direction was witnessed by some early risers.

According to one of the witnesses who had recorded the light on his mobile phone, the light was unusual in its characteristic as it looked like a top projector spotlight.

The unusual light lasted for a few minutes before it disappeared in a horizontal direction towards Mount Saramati, the witness said.

“It was not the first time these kinds of strange lights were seen in the similar direction (east).  Often in the past, we had witnessed some strange light phenomenon, though this time it was quite different from the past experience.”

Another witness who was on a trek at the crack of dawn to Singrip Village with his team captured the light on his phone camera but assumes it to have originated from a satellite or an airplane.

He said, “The light was bright and strange; never seen anything like this before.”
