Naga Council Dimapur appeals to Nagaland Guv on roads, sports complex, Unity Mall, NLTP Act in representation

Dimapur: Council says NLTP Act-1989 a total failure and mockery, nearly 1000 liquor outlets in Dimapur area itself

The Naga Council Dimapur has submitted a representation to the Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan with regard to the “urgent need for developments in Dimapur”. The council stated that Dimapur has been neglected in terms of development despite being the centre of business and a gate way to Nagaland and therefore urged the Governor to intervene and to take necessary steps for the all-round development of the district.

The council highlighted seven areas in particular where it sought developmental activities:

  1. Construction of By-Pass Road at NH- 29 at Dimapur

The apex CSO appealed for the construction of 2- lane road of 2.7 Km, at National Highway- 29 from Amar Mill point near the inter-State check Gate, Nagaland Police to Burma camp, Dhansari bridge, Dimapur-Nagaland.

  1. Construction of Road for New Naga Cemetery, Zani Vilage, Dimapur

It also requested for metaling & Black topping approach road construction from Daily Market Bamunpukhuri-l to the New Naga cemetery at Zani Village Area.

  1. Completion of Dimapur Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex

The Council said that Dimapur Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex construction has become a ‘total failure’ having been under construction since 2005 and was scheduled to be completed by 2009.

  1. Completion of Dimapur Civil Hospital

The Construction of Dimapur Civil Hospital is on its verge of completion, but there is no progress or further development henceforward, it stated.

  1. Urgent need for construction of a new fly over bridge from plaza point joining the present Railway Over-bridge

The Naga Council Dimapur also appealed for urgent construction of a new Fly-Over Bridge from plaza point joining at the present railway over-bridge to ease the present traffic menace especially for school going students and those persons attending Government offices and private works in the city.

  1. Lifting of NLTP Act 1989

The Naga Council said that all CSOs in Dimapur are of the view that NLTP Act- 1989 is a total failure and a mockery as there are nearly 1000 liquor outlets in Dimapur area itself and therefore requested the Governor to consider lifting the Act altogether.

It also raised concerns over the increasing number of drug abusers, especially among school and college going students and urged him to take up the matter in the next upcoming Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

The second session of the 14th NLA will begin on 11 September 2023.

  1. Reinstate the construction of Unity Mall in Dimapur

Lastly, the Council requested that for the reinstatement of Unity Mall which was a part of the Union Budget 2023-2024 for the establishment of Unity malls across the country which aims to promote and showcase the state’s One District One Product (ODOP). It protested against the idea that the mall may be likely constructed in another district.

“we cannot accept if such step-motherly treatment is meted out towards the citizens of Dimapur,” the council stated in its representation while demanding for justice.

The Naga Council Dimapur is the Apex Civil Society Organization with representatives from 20 Naga Tribes and 4 (four) independent Civil Society Organizations affiliated to it, namely, the Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation and the Dimapur Goan Bura’s- Sadar. Besides, there are other Dimapur based Civil Societies, namely, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dimapur District GB Federation and Dimapur Eastern Naga Students Union.
