Naga lad Dr Belenso Yimchunger helped in developing ISRO’s RVL technology

Kohima: Your innovative ideas and dedicated efforts have significantly impacted advancement of crucial technology; ISRO chairman says

Dr Belenso T Yimchunger, a Soil Scientist, has earned the gratitude of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for his contributions to the development of the Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) technology. On 22nd March 2024, ISRO successfully conducted the RLV Landing Experiment (RLV REX-20) at Aeronautical Test Range (ATR), Chitradurga in Karnataka.

In letter of appreciation to Dr Belenso T Yimchunger, Ram Das, JE, Power and Kumar, a student at IIT Delhi, ISRO Chairman Dr S Somnath said that the impact of their collective efforts contributed to the culminating of the successful launch while thanking them for their “unwavering support and dedication.”

“Your innovative ideas and dedicated efforts have significantly impacted the advancement of this crucial technology,” he also said.

Dr Somnath further expressed ISRO “eagerly anticipate future collaborations and the opportunity to continue our journey towards new horizons together.”

In 2023, Dr Yimchunger innovated the ‘Pungro Power Soil’ that converted soil collected from his hometown Pungro in Kiphire district, Nagaland, into electricity.

Earlier in 2022, the son of a retired electrician made an indigenous voice activated light control system which he named ‘TIGER’ albeit the limited resources available.
