A four-member Naga wrestling team led by Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) president Vivolie Kezo departed for Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday to participate in the 6th World Nomad Games, scheduled to be held from August 29 to September 7 at Cholpon-Ata.

The contingent comprises male wrestlers, Huluyi D Vadeo and Kuvenu Puro and female wrestlers Vikehenuo Zumvü and Haizuyile Zeliang, accompanied by officials, coaches and referees.

Naga Wrestling has been officially included as a demonstration sport at the 6th World Nomad Games. The Naga contingent will demonstrate the traditional Naga Wrestling style and compete in belt wrestling in their respective weight categories.

The participation marks a significant milestone in the NWA’s efforts to take Naga Wrestling beyond the State and establish it on national and international platforms.

The Association has so far promoted Naga Wrestling among communities across Nagaland and subsequently taken the sport to the national level. Naga Wrestling was featured as a medal event at the 12th AITWPF National Championship held in Goa in January 2026, which saw participation from 16 states.

With its inclusion as a demonstration event at the World Nomad Games, the NWA said its objective of promoting Naga Wrestling at the international level has taken a major step forward.

The Association further aims to have Naga Wrestling included as a medal event at the upcoming UWW World Wrestling Championship 2026 and at the next World Nomad Games in 2028.

The NWA acknowledged the support extended by the Government of Nagaland under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio towards the development and promotion of Naga Wrestling.

It also expressed gratitude to Deputy Chief Minister, TR Zeliang, Minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Advisor Kudecho Khamo and social activist Pelekho-u Akho Nagi for their financial contributions towards the Naga wrestling team’s participation in the World Nomad Games 2026.
