The Nagaland Cabinet has today decided that no permission will be granted for the conduct of the proposed ‘Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra’ in the State in the interest of maintenance of public order, informed by CL John, Minister, Forest, Environment & Climate Change and Village Guard who is also the Spokesperson of the State Government.
Minister CL John also said that the Cabinet highlighted the protection given under Art 371-A to protect religious or social practices of the Nagas and Naga customary law and procedures. Further, he informed that the Cabinet was apprised of the opposition voiced by various Civil Society Organisations, political parties, etc.
The ‘Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra’ is part of the ‘Gau Pratishtha Andola’ which seeks to make India free of cow slaughter. The Yatra will commence on 22nd September 2024 and will visit the capitals of all Indian States and Union Territories including Kohima where a programme is scheduled for 28th September 2024.
