Nagaland’s draft electoral roll published on Sunday contains around 11.99 lakh electors, with nearly 1.59 lakh names from the pre-SIR electorate of 13.57 lakh not included in the draft list following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the SIR exercise identified 29,944 electors as deceased, 1.23 lakh as absent or permanently shifted, and 5,059 as enrolled at multiple places.

The enumeration phase of the SIR was conducted across Nagaland from August 16 to September 14, with Booth Level Officers undertaking house-to-house verification. The draft roll was scheduled for publication on September 20 under the official SIR timetable.

The CEO office said the absent, shifted and other category includes electors who had become voters in other States or Union Territories, could not be found during the enumeration exercise, failed to submit their enumeration forms by September 14, or were unwilling to register.

The publication of the draft roll does not mark the end of the revision process. Electors whose names have not appeared in the draft roll can submit claims and objections from September 20 to October 20. The official schedule provides for the notice phase and disposal of claims and objections until November 18.

The final electoral roll for Nagaland is scheduled to be published on November 22, 2026. The CEO has stated that the SIR is intended to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out while no ineligible person is included in the electoral roll.
