The Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, Nagaland, has made it mandatory for buildings seeking No Objection Certificates (NOC) to provide dedicated water storage tanks made of concrete, masonry or steel for firefighting purposes.
According to a circular dated October 15, 2026, the earlier provision allowing Sintex or plastic water storage tanks for firefighting and life-safety requirements in existing buildings seeking fire NOCs has been discontinued with immediate effect.

The circular stated that wherever dedicated firefighting water storage tanks have been provided using plastic or Sintex tanks, these must be replaced with concrete, masonry or steel tanks, meeting the prescribed water storage capacity requirements as determined by inspection officers.
It further directed Officers-in-Charge (OCs) not to forward NOC applications unless the required firefighting water storage arrangements have been made using the specified materials.
The revised requirement has come into force with immediate effect.
