In view of incessant rainfall triggering landslides, flash floods and widespread waterlogging across the state, the Nagaland Government has directed all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to remain on high alert and activate their respective District Emergency Operations Centres (DEOCs) to ensure prompt emergency response.
In a directive issued by Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Sentiwapang Aier, the DDMAs have been instructed to closely monitor the evolving situation and undertake immediate measures to safeguard lives and minimise the impact of the ongoing weather emergency.
The government has directed district authorities to accord top priority to the safety of citizens and immediately evacuate residents from severely waterlogged, low-lying and landslide-prone areas, including unstable embankments and riverbanks.
District administrations have also been asked to assess the availability of essential commodities, including food grains, fuel and medicines, and ensure adequate stocks are maintained throughout the emergency period.
To strengthen emergency preparedness, the government instructed DDMAs to ensure uninterrupted communication networks, establish rapid communication systems wherever necessary, and mobilise coordinated response teams, keeping them on standby for any eventuality.
Authorities have further been directed to deploy heavy machinery, including JCBs and excavators, to clear landslide debris and mudslides from blocked highways and other critical roads to restore and maintain connectivity.
The directive also called for close coordination with the Power Department to pre-emptively disconnect electricity supply in submerged areas to prevent electrocution and ensure swift restoration once floodwaters recede.

District administrations have been asked to issue timely advisories identifying alternative travel routes and suspend non-essential movement along vulnerable and landslide-prone roads.
The government has also appealed to the public to avoid fishing, swimming or venturing near swollen rivers, streams, overflowing drains and riverbanks during the current spell of heavy rainfall.
In addition, citizens have been urged not to circulate unverified information or rumours on social media that could create unnecessary panic.

The government said all departments have been instructed to maintain close coordination and remain fully prepared to respond swiftly to any emergency arising from the continuing adverse weather conditions.
