Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav has called upon the people of the State to renew their commitment to constitutional values, unity, inclusive development and nation-building while preserving Nagaland’s rich cultural identity.
Extending his greetings to the people of Nagaland , Yadav paid homage to the freedom fighters, visionaries and patriots whose sacrifices secured India’s Independence, saying their courage and faith in justice, equality and democracy laid the foundation of the Republic.
In his address on the eve of the 80th Independence Day, the Governor said Independence Day was not merely an occasion for celebration but also a time for reflection on the responsibilities that accompany freedom. He urged citizens to work collectively for the progress, unity and prosperity of the nation.
Highlighting India’s journey over eight decades, Yadav said the country had emerged as one of the world’s leading democracies and a growing global force, making significant progress in agriculture, industry, science and technology, space exploration, education and healthcare.
Referring to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, he said India was striving to build a prosperous, inclusive, innovative and sustainable future, with the collective aspirations and efforts of more than a billion citizens driving the nation-building process.
Youth and women key to Nagaland’s progress
The Governor said Nagaland remained an active participant in the country’s development journey and was blessed with vibrant cultures, rich traditions and resilient communities.
He highlighted the growing emphasis on education, skill development, entrepreneurship, sports and innovation among Nagaland’s youth, describing them as possessing immense talent and potential to excel at national and international levels.
“It is our collective responsibility to create an environment that enables them to realise their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.
Yadav also underscored the vital role of women in strengthening communities, noting their contributions to education, healthcare, agriculture, entrepreneurship, governance and social development.
He called for greater participation and leadership of women in building a stronger and more inclusive future.

Support farmers, strengthen infrastructure
Recognising farmers and rural communities as the backbone of the economy, the Governor called for continued efforts to improve agricultural productivity, promote sustainable farming practices and create better market opportunities.
He said the Government’s focus on infrastructure development, digital connectivity, healthcare and social welfare was helping improve the quality of life of citizens.
At the same time, he stressed the importance of active citizen participation in the development process, noting that roads, communication networks, educational institutions and healthcare facilities were vital foundations for progress.
Yadav also drew attention to challenges including unemployment, substance abuse, environmental degradation and social divisions, saying these required collective action involving government, communities and responsible citizens.
Preserve identity amid rapid change
The Governor emphasised that Nagaland’s strong community spirit and cultural heritage remained important assets. He called for preservation of the State’s cultural identity while embracing opportunities presented by a rapidly changing world.
He also acknowledged the contributions of security forces, police personnel, doctors, nurses, teachers, civil servants and other frontline and unsung workers serving society.
Yadav said the future of Nagaland and India depended on people working together beyond differences of tribe, region, language, religion and political affiliation.
“The strength of our democracy lies in our diversity and our progress depends upon our unity,” he said, urging citizens to foster understanding, tolerance and cooperation.
The Governor called for collective efforts to build a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Nagaland, with greater opportunities for youth, empowerment of women, environmental protection, stronger institutions and adherence to the rule of law.
He urged the people to ensure that the benefits of development reach every village, family and citizen.
Yadav ended by calling upon the people to celebrate the 80th Independence Day with “pride, gratitude and a renewed resolve” to build a brighter future for generations to come.
