The newly constructed Jadonang Boys hostel of Zeliangrong Heraka School was inaugurated on 20th March 2025 with Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan as the chief guest.
The Governor in his Inaugural speech said at Town hall Tening that he was honoured to stand before the gathering, inaugurating the newly constructed building of Jadonang Boys hostel of the Zeliangrong Heraka School, an institution of hope and excellence in the remote yet vibrant region of Tening.
Governor said the school was established in 1984 under the visionary initiative of Janjati Vikas Samiti Nagaland, starting as a humble primary school with a noble mission to uplift the tribal community through education while preserving their rich cultural heritage. Today, almost four decades after, Zeliangrong Heraka School has blossomed into a high school, illuminating the lives of students from 23 villages across Nagaland, Assam, and Manipur. Its journey from a small classroom to a nationally recognized institution reflects the power of perseverance and Collective effort.
The school’s philosophy of fostering emotional and cultural integrity and bridging tribal and non-tribal communities through service resonates deeply with our nation’s ethos of “Unity in Diversity.” By nurturing students to become socially conscious citizens with a national outlook, the school is not just educating minds but uniting hearts, he said.
He also said the unwavering commitment of honorary teachers, many of whom are alumni of this very school, is well appreciated. Their selfless service and innovative spirit, even without modern teaching aids, has turned this school into a model institution. Today, it stands as a testament to what community-driven education can achieve.
It Is heartening to note that the Zeliangrong Heraka School has set unparalleled benchmarks in academic excellence. Since 2006, its students have maintained a remarkable 100 % pass rate in the HSLC exams for 16 out of 19 years, including an unbroken 12 years streak from 2011 to 2022—a feat unmatched in Nagaland. This consistency speaks volumes about the dedication of teachers and the management, he added.

Beyond academics, Zeliangrong Heraka School has ignited a cultural renaissance. Programmes like Raksha Bandhan, Science Tours and National Children’s Science Congress participation will surely broaden their outlook, while literary and cultural events have preserved indigenous traditions. The school’s emphasis on holistic development has inspired neighbouring institutions to elevate their standards, drastically reducing dropout rates and fostering a community-wide appreciation for education.
The true measure of the school achievement lies in its alumni. From government leaders, engineers, doctors and postgraduate scholars to grassroots social workers, former students are driving change across sectors. Many have returned as teachers or managing committee members, perpetuating the cycle of service—proof that education here is not merely a ladder to personal success but a lifelong commitment to societal upliftment, the Governor said.
He hoped that the inauguration of the Jadonang Boys hostel building will mark a transformative chapter and further inspire the students to strive for excellence. For students from distant villages, this building will be more than a mere hostel, it will be a home where dreams are nurtured, friendships forged and futures shaped, he added.
