Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav reviewed the functioning of the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) at Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on September 23, with the Board highlighting its recruitment record, digitisation measures and the need for stronger infrastructure and technological capacity.
NSSB officials briefed the Governor on the Board’s establishment, mandate, organisational structure, recruitment framework, achievements, challenges and future plans.
Established on July 31, 2020, the NSSB became functional on August 25, 2022, with the mandate to conduct centralised recruitment examinations for Grade III posts under Pay Matrix Levels 3 to 7 in the Government of Nagaland.
Since becoming operational, the Board has conducted recruitment examinations covering 1,734 advertised posts. A total of 4,232 candidates were called for interviews, of whom 1,511 were selected.
The Board highlighted its efforts to strengthen centralised and standardised recruitment through digitisation and greater transparency. These include online registration, One Time Registration, e-admit cards, publication of answer keys and cut-off marks, and digital access to examination and recruitment-related information.

However, the NSSB identified several challenges, including differences and ambiguities in service rules and eligibility conditions, the need for continuous technological upgrades and stronger data security, and constraints relating to office space and secure facilities for handling confidential examination materials.
The Board also highlighted the need for a dedicated Information Technology cell and permanent dedicated premises to strengthen its operations.
As part of its future plans, the NSSB intends to strengthen its recruitment data repository and move towards a completely paperless recruitment ecosystem. It also plans greater standardisation and digitisation of workflows, enhanced cybersecurity and data protection, and regular capacity-building and training for its staff.
The review meeting provided an opportunity to assess the Board’s progress in centralised recruitment while identifying measures to strengthen its institutional and technological capacity.
