Nagaland’s Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, emphasized the importance of unity, cultural preservation, and government support for sports in building a progressive and vibrant society.
Speaking at 56th General Session Centre Chakhesang Sports Association’s (CCSA) hosted by Sakraba Youth Organization at Sakraba village, Kenye highlighted the role of collective effort in achieving success. “Unity and hard work are essential for progress. Sports, as much as any other sector, deserves attention and support from the government to nurture young talent,” said Kenye on January 20.
He underscored the need for robust support systems in sports, drawing comparisons to advanced countries where corporate sponsorships are instrumental.
“Sports is the only platform that unites people across all walks of life while promoting businesses. We need to adopt a similar approach and encourage investments in our athletes,” he said.
Kenye also identified sports and folk songs as two of the most valuable aspects of Naga society, calling on sportspersons to remain motivated. He reassured them of the government’s efforts to craft policies that offer better opportunities and support.
Stressing the importance of cultural preservation, Kenye cautioned against losing traditional values. “We must uphold the good traditions and culture of our forefathers while also being mindful of unnecessary celebrations and the proliferation of organisations and unions in our society,” he remarked.
