Nagaland Police arrests one person from Kohima for child pornography

Kohima: Child pornography case referred to Nagaland Police by Interpol, Stockholm

Cyber Crime Police Station, Nagaland Police arrested one person from Kohima on 18 May 2023 for Child Pornography, DIPR informed. The accused was said to be part of Rooms/Groups in the “Wickr app” where child pornography was shared/posted amongst the members.

The case was referred to Nagaland Police by Interpol, Stockholm through CBI International Police Co-operation Unit (IPCU).

The Nagaland Police has warned that publishing or transmitting obscene or sexually explicit material in electronic form is a criminal offense under the IT Act. It said that Wickr app, like Whatsapp, provides end-to-end encryption; however, Law Enforcement Agencies can gain access and detect criminal activities.

The police further requested the public to inform the police department if the circulation of obscene and sexually explicit material is seen on social media platforms or messaging apps so that legal action be initiated.
