The Nagaland Tug of War Association (NTWA) today secured the Silver Medal in the Men & Mixed category, competing in the 580 Kg division in the 18th National Federation Tug of War National Championship 2023.
Held in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, a hill station situated at an elevation of 11,500 feet amid the majestic Himalayas, the Nagaland team participated for the first time in the 36th Senior Men & Mixed of the 18th National Federation Tug of War National Championship 2023.
The Championship, inaugurated by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on September 29, witnessed the participation of 429 athletes from 15 states, accompanied by their team management, State officials, and coaches. Union Minister for Earth & Sciences Kiren Rijiju graced the Valedictory session as the special guest, alongside Bollywood Actor and Producer Randeep Hooda.
In the semi-finals, the Nagaland team triumphed over Gujarat, earning them a spot in the finals against Kerala. Despite their best efforts, they were defeated by the Kerala team and clinched the Silver medal.
Expressing great joy over this achievement, NTWA President Dr. Er. Vekho Swuro credited it to the collaborative efforts of the pullers, officials, well-wishers, and the moral and prayer support from the people of Nagaland. He acknowledged that participating for the first time revealed areas where they need to improve their techniques and committed to rigorous training to aim for the Gold in upcoming championships.
