Nagaland wins two more medals at National Games Goa

Nagaland bagged two more medals at the ongoing National Games in Goa in Boxing which is being held from October 26 to November 9. Preeti won the Silver Medal for Nagaland in the 60 kg category, while Sanju won Bronze Medal in the 66 kg category. The news was announced by Abu Metha, Advisor to CM and President, Nagaland Athletics Association on a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Both of them had qualified to represent Nagaland through the senior nationals. Well done to the coach Ms. Tsungchetrenla Tzudir the support staff and the officials of the Nagaland Boxing Association especially my senior colleague Mr. Meren Paul and our Deputy Chef De Mission Mr. Kuputo Shohe. Thank You for making Nagaland proud,” stated Metha’s post on X.

This brings Nagaland’s medal tally to eight in total with one gold, three silver and four bronze medals.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also took to X to congratulate the two athletes, “Congratulations, Nagaland Team for winning 2 Medals in boxing at the #NationalGamesGoa. Ms. Preeti: Silver in 60kg category. Mr. Sanju: Bronze in 66kg category. They’d qualified through the Senior Nationals. Congratulations to the Coaches, support staff & Nagaland Boxing Assoc.”

Nagaland’s Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak, too, posted a complimentary post on X. “Many many congratulations to Ms. Preeti and Mr. Sanju. Nagaland is proud of you! @NagalandOlympic @NagaAthletics @MyGovNagaland,” posted Konyak.

The ongoing National Games 2023 which is currently underway in Goa will conclude today. Maharashtra continued to lead the National Games 2023 medals tally with 220 medals—75 gold, 67 silver and 78 bronze.

Nagaland has been ranked 28 with one gold, three silver and four bronze medals, among the 32 States and Union Territories participating in the National Games 2023.
