The picturesque village of Mopungchuket under Mokokchung district in Nagaland came alive with festivities as the Mopungchuket Community Tourism Society organized the Tsüngremmong festival at the beautiful Longrangtenem Park on 2 August 2023. Amidst the celebrations, a significant milestone was achieved with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Multi-Utility Hall, marking a new era for tourism in the region.
The festival commenced with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Keduosie-ü M Rio, Director of the Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland. The air was filled with cultural fervour as attendees enjoyed a mesmerizing lineup of traditional performances, including a captivating folk song by Mopungchuket Medemsanger Putu.
Rio expressed her admiration for the Mopungchuket Community Tourism Society’s efforts in organizing the grand Tsüngremmong festival. She highlighted the significance of the Multi-Utility Hall, which represents an investment in the village’s future, now owned by the people of Mopungchuket. She encouraged the locals to harness the available resources and collaborate with the Tourism Department to further boost tourism and employment opportunities.
Limalenden Longkumer, the Convenor of the Mopungchuket Community Tourism Society (MCTS), passionately presented the vision for Mopungchuket Tourism, emphasizing the rich history, cultural heritage, and mythology that the village offers. He proudly highlighted the various tourist attractions and activities that have been drawing thousands of visitors to the village.
In the wake of the pandemic’s impact on tourism, the society is determined to breathe new life into the industry and welcome even more visitors. MCTS envisions Mopungchuket as a key player in promoting tourism in Nagaland and contributing to the local economy. Urging support from the tourism department, the society aims to provide opportunities for the young generation and ensure sustainable growth.
The vibrant celebrations were enriched by the delightful cultural presentations by Tazülenden Cultural Society, Mopungchuket Watsü Telen, MALT, ARSA, and Mopungchuket Medemsanger Putu, leaving the attendees enthralled.
With the fervour of Tsüngremmong and the splendid new Multi-Utility Hall, Mopungchuket is ready to shine as a beacon of tourism in Nagaland, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in its captivating history, culture, and warm hospitality.
