Longleng: MLA Pongshi Phom calls for need to promote cultural heritage preservation through education

Nangthu Morung at Pongo Village under Longleng District was inaugurated on 24th October 2023 by A Pongshi Phom, MLA 50 A/C Longleng, DIPR informed.

Speaking as the Special Guest, Phom underscored the significance of education in the preservation of culture and heritage, stating that, “education serves as a means to safeguard culture and heritage”. He said that an integrated educational approach is indispensable in communicating the value of cultural heritage. The MLA called for the need to promote cultural heritage preservation through education, as it represents a strategy for safeguarding both tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

Extra Assistant Commissioner, Dr Samuel Akho Konyak, in his speech emphasized that the younger generation must recognize the value and necessity of cultural preservation. He stated that regardless of its scale, a society’s cultural heritage and identity are sources of pride. Konyak also said that the present generation should hold steadfast to the existing community and pass it on to the succeeding generations for sustained prosperity.

Short speeches were also delivered by T Lakba, chairman Pongo Village; Y L Anba, Chairman Hongnyu Village and P Kangyong, 2nd GB.

Nangthu youth under the guidance of L Wannu and T Taukam delivered a musical performance. An overview of the Morung construction was presented by L Chingben.

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Y Ashau Phom and the program was chaired by T Laknyei Phom. An expression of gratitude was extended by H Aniam, where he thanked all participants, attendees, and contributors for their unwavering support and presence.

The dedicatory prayer was pronounced by B Chingmei, Pastor, Pongo Baptist Church.
