The Department of Land Resources, Tuensang, PMKSY WDC 2.0 in collaboration Sao Chang Government College (SCC), Tuensang organised a program to celebrate National Space Day on Friday under the theme “Touching Lives While Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga”.
The event’s Guest of Honor, Dr. Lanurenla, Principal of SCC, highlighted the achievements of Chandrayaan-3, India’s latest lunar mission. She noted that Chandrayaan-3 aims to enhance our understanding of the Moon’s surface, particularly the composition and presence of water ice in the polar regions. Dr. Lanurenla remarked that this mission solidifies India’s position as a major player in the global space community, being the first country to reach the Moon’s south pole.
She urged students to draw inspiration from this milestone and strive for excellence, citing the achievements of figures like Olympian Dr. T Ao or UPSC topper Chubalemba, among others.
In his keynote address, Amos Khiam, Assistant Inspector, Department of Land Resources, Tuensang, lauded the collaboration with SCC and emphasized the importance of recognizing India’s advancements in space science. He encouraged students to consider careers in science, underlining the significance of commemorating India’s progress in this field.
The program was chaired by Dr. Soyimla Akum, Assistant Professor, Department of English, SCC, and concluded with a vote of thanks from Takumpuba Lomou, Assistant Professor, Department of English, SCC.
To mark the occasion, a sketching competition was held where Shouthong, a BA 3rd Semester student from the Department of History, secured first place, followed by Pushu Khiamniungan of the BA 3rd Semester, Department of English, in second place, and Chemie M of the BA 5th Semester, Department of English, in third.
Prizes were awarded by Dr. Lal, Vice Principal of SCC, in the presence of Er. Moamongba Longchari, District Project Officer, Department of Land Resources, Tuensang. All the 16 participants were given participatory certificates.
