The Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) in Mokokchung witnessed the celebration of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on October 1. Organized by the Mokokchung District Voluntary Blood Donors Association in collaboration with the Blood Centre, IMDH, the event highlighted the crucial role of voluntary blood donors in saving lives.
Addressing the gathering, Guest of Honour, Thsuvisie Phoji, NCS, DC Mokokchung spoke on the life-saving significance of blood donation. Despite the reluctance of many to become voluntary donors, the Mokokchung DC encouraged the gathering to continue their selfless deeds and spread awareness about the importance of blood donations in society.
Dr H Tsipongchem Sangtem, in his keynote address, emphasized on the irreplaceable nature of blood. “Unlike other medical remedies, there is no substitute for blood, and it is a vital component in saving patients’ lives,” said Dr Sangtem urging attendees to recognize the impact of blood donations in both lives saved and lives lost due to insufficient blood supply.

The highlight of the program was the recognition of six individuals as part of the Ayushman Bhavah – Voluntary Blood Donation Movement. These donors had contributed more than 20 times to the blood bank, making a significant difference in numerous lives.
The event culminated with a successful blood donation drive, with the participation of voluntary donors, military personnel, ex-servicemen, and red ribbon clubs from various colleges. Over 20 units of blood were collected during the drive.
DC Mokokchung also took the opportunity to inspect the Blood Centre IMDH and interacted with the staff, showing support for their vital work in managing the blood bank.
