NBSE kicks off year long 50th Anniversary celebration with ‘Golden Jubilee Race’

Kohima: Dr Yhome lauds NBSE’s “trust-worthy” and “reliable” reputation, says students should be proud to be associated with it

The year-long celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) commenced on Tuesday with the “Golden Jubilee Race” in Kohima. The curtain raiser programme was flagged off by Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor, School Education & SCERT, at High School Junction, Kohima at 7:00 am.

670 students and teachers from 49 schools in Kohima town participated in the Marathon, under the theme “Learning is a Marathon”. The marathon culminated at the Nagaland Assembly Secretariat Junction where a brief programme was held.

Speaking at the occasion, Special Guest, Dr Yhome congratulated NBSE for emerging as a “trust-worthy” and “reliable” board in the country that many look up for inspiration. He said that though it is from a small state, Nagaland Board of School Education has proved itself a leader, pointing out that it was the first school board in India to do assessment on language skills and the first to include both father and mother’s name on the Cumulative Record book.

The Advisor acknowledged the progress that that NBSE has made in the short time, noting how education came very late to the Naga society. He affirmed to the students that they should be proud to being products of NBSE because of its good reputation.

Dr Yhome also wished the Board the best as it continues with its year-long event filled celebration.

Kevileno Angami, Commissioner and Secretary, School Education & SCERT, expressed gratitude to the pioneers who had been part of the formation of NBSE. She also congratulated the Board and all schools, faculties and children affiliated to it on the significant occasion.

Despite challenges, NBSE has evolved and has become a board that is to be reckoned with in the Northeast, Angami said, adding that other boards are now seeking assistance from the Board. Further she said that all stakeholders must continue to collectively develop and move forward to meet with the challenges.

Chairperson of NBSE, Asano Sekhose also noted that the Board has come a long way since its humble beginning. Overcoming various challenges, we tried out best to keep up the good standards, she said and expressed hope that with the support and cooperation of all stakeholders NBSE will be at par with the rest of the country.

The winners of the Golden Jubilee Race were awarded Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Champion – Petevituo Yhome, Northfield Khikha
1st Runner Up – Seyiedelie Chüsi, Mt. Sinai Hr. Sec. School
2nd Runner Up – Wakenye Khing, Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School
