The North Eastern Council (NEC), under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), has completed nine major development projects worth nearly Rs 80 crore across Nagaland during July and August 2026, spanning environmental conservation, drinking water, agriculture, culture, tourism, roads and livelihood promotion.
The projects, including five initiatives completed in July with a combined value of Rs 16.06 crore, reflect the NEC’s focus on balancing infrastructure development with ecological restoration, cultural pride, civic amenities, and rural entrepreneurship.
Under the Scheme of NEC (SoNEC), two major scientific afforestation projects were completed in Phek and Peren districts at an approved cost of Rs 3 crore each. The initiatives seek to restore degraded hill slopes, check soil erosion and promote biodiversity while involving Joint Forest Management Committees and generating wage employment for local communities.
In the education and basic amenities sector, the Clean and Safe Drinking Water Facility at Nagaland University’s Medziphema Campus was operationalised on July 2. Sanctioned at Rs 4.43 crore and implemented by Nagaland University under NEC schemes, the facility is expected to benefit students and scholars as well as nearby rural settlements.
The NEC also completed a Rs 4-crore project for value addition in Nagaland’s coffee sector on July 15. The initiative supports modern coffee-roasting facilities and entrepreneur training, enabling local growers to process their produce within the state and retain greater economic value within the region.
Cultural infrastructure received a major boost with the completion of the Naga Indigenous Inn-cum-Learning Centre at Kijulo, Phesama, at a cost of Rs 1.66 crore, the Museum-cum-Library and Guest House at Chungliyimti at Rs 3.11 crore, and the Konyak Heritage Complex in Mon district, sanctioned at Rs 22.78 crore. The projects are aimed at preserving Naga heritage, folk history and indigenous traditions while creating platforms for cultural learning and tourism.

In the tourism sector, the Development of Kohima View Point at Aradura Hills was completed under a project sanctioned at Rs 4.50 crore. The facility is expected to enhance the capital’s tourism appeal by providing visitors with panoramic views of Kohima and the surrounding hills.
A major road connectivity project under NESIDS-Roads was also completed, covering an 8.4-km stretch from NH-29 at 7th Mile Model Village through Seithekiema C Tourist Destination to Niuland Road towards Governor’s Camp. The project was sanctioned at Rs 32.89 crore and is expected to improve connectivity and facilitate movement along an important emerging tourism and economic corridor.
The NEC also released Rs 33.92 lakh under SoNEC towards the nearly completed Tribal Artisans Resource Centre at Chumukedima, sanctioned at Rs 2.91 crore. The initiative seeks to support traditional artisans and promote indigenous crafts and livelihoods. An additional Rs 6 lakh was allocated for an awareness workshop on the cultivation and trade of agarwood, aimed at opening sustainable livelihood and commercial opportunities linked to the state’s forest resources.
