Neeraj Chopra has won silver medal in Javelin Throw at the Paris Olympics 2024. The first Indian to get gold medal in athletics at the Games has now won medals in consecutive Olympics.
In the finals of the 2024 event, Chopra came second with a throw of 89.45m. The gold medal was taken by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem who broke the Olympic Record with his throw of 92.97m.
President Droupadi Murmu extended her congratulations to Neeraj Chopra and expressed happiness and pride that he is the first Indian athlete to win a gold and a silver medal in two successive Olympic Games.
In a post on X, the President said: “His feat will inspire generations to come. India looks forward to Neeraj Chopra bringing home more medals and glory in the future.”
Congratulating Chopra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi too posted: “Neeraj Chopra is excellence personified! Time and again he’s shown his brilliance. India is elated that he comes back with yet another Olympic success… He will continue to motivate countless upcoming athletes to pursue their dreams and make our nation proud.”
“What a moment for Bharat!” said Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports. “Congratulations Neeraj, you’ve inspired a nation and shown the world what determination and excellence look like. We couldn’t be prouder! Thank you for making India shine on the global stage!” he also conveyed.
