Minister for Housing and Mechanical Engineering, P Bashangmongba Chang, inaugurated the New SP Office Tuensang on August 28.
Speaking at the inauguration function, he said the occasion was significant for the people of Tuensang, as it marked not merely the inauguration of a government building but also the strengthening of an important institution entrusted with maintaining peace, security, law and order and ensuring the safety of the people.
He noted that since its inception, the Police Department has been serving the people of the district with dedication and commitment, often working under challenging circumstances. In this context, the construction of a modern and well-equipped office building was a long-awaited and welcome development for the district.
He said the new office building symbolises the growth and professionalism of the police institution and reflects a renewed commitment to public service. The facility, he added, would provide a better working environment for police personnel and enable them to discharge their responsibilities more efficiently.
He further highlighted the emerging challenges confronting modern policing, noting that crime is no longer confined to the physical world. With the rapid advancement of technology, cybercrime, online fraud and other technology-enabled offences have become growing concerns.

He stressed that the police force must continuously upgrade its skills, embrace new technologies and remain prepared to meet the changing needs and challenges of society.
The Minister also appreciated the Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio and Deputy CM, Y Patton for their continued concern and commitment towards strengthening the Police infrastructure across the state and improving public service delivery. He observed that police officers are often the first point of contact for citizens during times of difficulty and therefore urged the Department to remain professional in the discharge of their duties, firm in maintaining law and order and committed to preserving peace and security.
Highlighting Tuensang’s rich social and cultural heritage and its diverse communities, the Minister said that maintaining peace and harmony in the district was a collective responsibility. He stressed that the Police Department, civil administration, traditional institutions, community leaders, civil society organisations and the public must work together to preserve peace, security and communal harmony in the district.
