The District Administration, NHIDCL and officials of the EPC contractor have agreed to accelerate construction works along the Kohima-Jessami stretch of National Highway 29, with major GSB, WMM and DBM works scheduled to begin from September 12.

According to a DIPR update, a review meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Kohima, on August 25 to assess the progress of the ongoing NH-29 project connecting Kohima with Phek and to address issues hampering construction.

The meeting examined several critical components of the project, including sinking zones, road maintenance, granular sub-base (GSB), wet mix macadam (WMM), drainage, culverts, road shoulders and protection works.

The contractor committed to commencing major GSB, WMM and DBM works from September 12 and completing the identified works within the Kohima section by the first week of October 2026.

Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B Henok Buchem, NCS, stressed the need for visible improvement in the pace of construction and directed the contractor to ensure timely deployment of adequate machinery, manpower and materials.

Buchem also urged NHIDCL and the EPC contractor to take local considerations and public sentiments into account while executing the road project, which is an important connectivity link for the region.

The Deputy Commissioner assured that the district administration would extend necessary support in resolving issues falling within its jurisdiction. He further said the administration would closely monitor the progress of the project against the timelines committed by the contractor.
