NIA arrests one in Manipur on charges of transnational conspiracy to wage war against India

New Delhi: NIA says insurgent groups recruiting OGWs and sympathizers, collection arms and ammo

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a person on charges of transnational conspiracy by Myanmar based leadership of terror outfits to wage a war against the Government of India by exploiting the current ethnic unrest in the Manipur.

NIA, in a press release, revealed the accused as one Moirangthem Anand Singh and said that a case had been registered on 19 July 2023 in New Delhi.

The agency further informed that the leadership based in Myanmar of insurgent groups/proscribed terrorist organizations were “recruiting Over Ground Workers (OGWs), cadres and sympathisers to augment the strength to carry out attacks on security forces and opposing ethnic groups by exploiting current unrest in the state of Manipur.”

These groups and organizations are “collecting arms, ammunitions and explosives by unlawful means, including plunder and pillage of government facilities and resources” for this purpose, NIA stated.

The accused had been taken to New Delhi and produced before the Jurisdictional Court on 23 September who remanded the accused to Police custody for a period of five days till 27 September. Further investigations are in progress, the Agency said.
