Amid growing tensions in the Nagaland-Assam border area in Mon district and heightened concern of possible disturbances in Tizit town and its adjoining areas, the authorities have imposed night curfew with immediate effect. The curfew will be in force daily from 6 PM to 6 AM, covering the stretch from Tizit-Namtola bridge to Tekang Junction, till further notice.
In an order following intelligence inputs suggesting threats to public peace and security, the Additional District Magistrate Tizit Sub-Division banned the gathering and mobilization of people which could potentially escalate the situation. Under the curfew, the assembly of five or more individuals — whether on foot or in any vehicle, including two or three-wheelers — has been prohibited. Carrying of weapons, including arms, sticks, rods, machetes (daos), stones, or any object that could be used to incite violence, is also banned in the restricted area.

Authorities have cautioned that violators will face legal action under relevant provisions of law. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Tizit has been directed to implement the curfew to ensure compliance.
Meanwhile, sources said due to the ongoing tensions in the Nagaland-Assam border at Namtola, bus and taxi services are ferrying students and passengers from Mon district are travelling via Tamlu-Merangkong-Mokokchung-Dimapur. In this regard, the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has requested all citizens of Merangkong to Alichen to render assistance in case the vehicles or passengers are in need of help.
