Niuland DPDB charts development roadmap, stresses on census preparedness

The District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) of Niuland district convened its meeting on April 7, 2026, at the DC’s Conference Hall, Niuland under the chairmanship of Jacob Zhimomi, Minister for PHED and Cooperation.

The meeting brought together officials from various departments to review developmental progress, discuss key issues and outline priorities for the district. At the outset, the board reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting held on February 26, 2026, including the decision to conduct field visits to schools and villages to verify the implementation of government projects after the HSLC and HSSLC examinations.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman Jacob Zhimomi extended his heartfelt appreciation to Deputy Commissioner, Sara S Jamir for her dedicated service and significant contributions to the district. He commended her human performance, noting that her leadership has positively impacted not only the district but also the state as a whole.

He further wished her success in her future responsibilities. Highlighting future priorities, the Minister stressed that the upcoming census exercise would play a crucial role in the district’s development planning.

He urged the district administration to convene meetings with Gaon Buras (GBs) and Village Councils prior to the commencement of the operation to ensure awareness and proper participation of the public and further emphasized the importance of Aadhaar enrolment and accurate data collection, stating that proper documentation and population records are essential for securing developmental benefits.

He also noted on improving administrative infrastructure in the district. The need to establish offices for key departments such as agriculture, horticulture, veterinary, and urban development was highlighted. Additionally, the issue of staff shortages and the requirement for new posts were raised for consideration.

He noted issues concerning inter-state coordination, particularly in areas bordering Assam, were also deliberated.

In his concluding remarks, the Minister called for continued coordination among departments and urged officials to maintain transparency and efficiency in implementing development projects. He emphasized that while policies and resources are provided at higher levels, it is the responsibility of officers at the district level to ensure effective execution.

Vice-Chairman DPDB and Deputy Commissioner Niuland, Sara S Jamir, thanked all departments for their cooperation and expressed gratitude to the minister and officials who supported her throughout her tenure as DC of Niuland. In her address, She highlighted key achievements made since the district’s formation. She pointed out improvements in road connectivity, better coordination in project implementation, and progress in sectors such as education and healthcare. She appreciated the efforts of the district administration and departments for their continued dedication despite challenges such as shortage of staff, limited infrastructure and officers handling multiple responsibilities.

She also emphasized the need for collective responsibility in ensuring that development initiatives reach the grassroots level effectively.

As per the agenda, the board deliberated on the repair of the ceiling of the Multipurpose hall-cum-Auditorium at Government High School (GHS) Agunaqa. The submission of developmental issues and urgent requirements of the Aghunaqa area was also taken up.

Limaangtet Jamir, DFO/Forest Ranger, gave a PowerPoint presentation on their departmental activities, highlighting conservation efforts and sustainable forest management.

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry was selected to highlight its district-level activities on the next DPDB meeting.

The board also discussed potential initiatives such as organizing a fish festival to promote local economic opportunities and enhance livelihood prospects in the district.
