President of the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), Vilanuo Angela Yhome, passed away on Friday morning.
Her funeral service would be held at Christ the King Church, Kohima Village, on August 1 at 10 a.m., followed by her burial at her residence.
A respected social leader and peace advocate, Yhome dedicated her life to serving the Naga community, the Church, and various social organisations. She served as President of the Naga Mothers’ Association until her passing and was a long-time member of the Naga Mothers’ Peace Committee, where she played an active role in promoting peace and reconciliation among the Naga people.
She also served for many years as a Board Member of the Cradle Ridge Centre, General Secretary of the Tenyimia Women Union, and was an active member of the Global Naga Forum, working tirelessly for the welfare and unity of Nagas across borders.
Yhome made significant contributions to the Catholic Church and women’s organisations. She served as President and later Advisor of the Nagaland Catholic Women Association, was a member of the Bible Review Committee, and represented Nagaland on the Board of the Council of Catholic Women of India from 2015 to 2023.
She completed her schooling at Little Flower School, Kohima, graduated from Kohima College, and earned a Bachelor of Education degree from NCERT. Following a distinguished career in teaching and educational administration, she retired from government service.
Within Kohima Village, Yhome became the first woman to serve as Joint Secretary of the Lhisemia Council and later served as its Secretary.
Her service to the Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) was equally noteworthy. She served as Joint Secretary and General Secretary during the 2000–2003 tenure and later as Chief Election Commissioner from 2015 to 2016. Her dedication and invaluable contributions to the Church and society have been widely acknowledged, with tributes pouring in from various organisations and individuals.
Vilanuo Angela Yhome will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to peace, faith, women’s empowerment, and the welfare of the Naga people.

Governor, NPF mourn
Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav and the Naga People’s Front (NPF) have expressed deep grief over the demise of Vilanuo Angela Yhome, President of the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), who passed away on Friday.
In his condolence message, the Governor described the late Yhome as a committed leader whose unwavering dedication and invaluable service to society would be remembered for years to come. He said her leadership, compassion and tireless efforts had made a lasting impact on the lives of countless people, and that her absence would be deeply felt.
On behalf of the people of Nagaland and in his personal capacity, the Governor conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, members of the Naga Mothers’ Association and all those whose lives she had touched. He prayed that the Almighty grant them strength and solace to bear the irreparable loss and grant eternal peace to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, the Naga People’s Front also expressed profound sorrow over the passing of the NMA President, describing her as a pillar of strength, compassion and wisdom for Naga society.
The party said that as President of the NMA, Vilanuo Angela Yhome devoted her life to upholding the dignity of Naga women, promoting peace and advocating for the welfare of children and families across Nagaland. It added that her courage, exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to justice and social causes would continue to be remembered by generations to come.
Extending heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and the entire NMA fraternity, the NPF prayed that the Almighty grant eternal peace to her soul and give strength and comfort to all those mourning her loss. The party also said her legacy of selfless service, compassion and leadership would continue to inspire society.
