The National Medical Commission (NMC) has revised the eligibility criteria for NEET-UG that will give students the flexibility to choose various subjects in class 12, in line with the New Education Policy.

In a public notice announced on 22nd November 2023, NMC has said candidates who undertake study of the requisite subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology alongwith English) even as additional subjects after passing Class 12th from duly recognized boards by the concerned Government will be permitted to appear in NEET-UG Test and resultantly also be eligible for grant of Eligibility Certificate.

This new rule will replace the old one set up by the erstwhile Medical Council of India that requires candidates to undertake two years of regular / continuous / coterminous study of the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology, in Class 11th and 12th with practical, along with English to be eligible for NEET-UG.

NMC has also informed that candidates who fulfil the new criteria but were earlier rejected the Eligibility Certificate on grounds of the subject choice will now be eligible to appear in NEET-UG-2024.
