Kohima District has outperformed the other 15 districts for the third time in a row at the Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games (NOPG) as the curtain closed on the sporting event on Saturday. The 2024 edition was hosted by Chümoukedima and Dimapur who finished in the second and fourth places respectively. Phek district came third.
At the end of the Games, Kohima secured 89 medals, 35 of which were gold where 27 were silver and 27 bronze. 1st Runners-Up Chümoukedima came close with total 83 medals, including 24 gold, 28 silver and 31 bronze while 2nd Runners-Up Phek secured 64 medals, out of which 22 were gold, 18 were silver and 24 bronze.
None of the 16 districts went home deprived of a medal in the Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024.
The closing function was graced by the Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan and T.R. Zeliang, Deputy Chief Minister where awards were also presented to individual athletes who left lasting impressions with their outstanding achievements.
Outstanding Sportswoman Neshe Maonyu Konyak, representing Peren district, showcased remarkable talent in athletics, securing two gold medals in the 100m women’s category and the 4x400m mixed relay, with a notable time of 13.89s in the 100m sprint. Outstanding Sportsman – Lhangti Konyak from Mon District displayed exceptional prowess in Sepaktakraw, further adding to the excitement of the games with his remarkable skills on the field, Nagaland Olympic Association informed.
In recognition of exemplary sportsmanship and fair play, Chümoukedima district was honored with the Olympic Fair Play Trophy, while Longleng district received the prestigious Spirit of Olympic Award, symbolizing the values of camaraderie, perseverance, and unity that define the essence of the Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In the Inter District Athletics Meet held at NAPTC Ground from 15th to 17th February, Kohima sprinted ahead and got crowned overall champion after winning 12 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze. It also won Team Champion in Men Category securing 9 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze.
Meanwhile, the women’s athletic team from Noklak district was declared Team Champion after they won 7 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze.
Tsuchoi T was adjudged Best Athlete (Women) of Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024 with her 793 points in 5000M Race with a performance of 18:29.05s while the Best Athlete (Men) went to Kohima’s Kevichütuo Lhoungu for securing 875 points in 200M Race with a performance of 22.37s.
