Norwegian author Jon Fosse wins Nobel Prize in Literature 2023

Norwegian Novelist, playwright, essayist and poet  Jon Fosse was announced the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2023 today “for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable”.

Considered one of the greatest European writers, Fosse, 64, has over seventy novels, poems, children’s books, essays and theatre plays to his credit, which has been translated into fifty languages.

“His immense oeuvre written in Norwegian Nynorsk and spanning a variety of genres consists of a wealth of plays, novels, poetry collections, essays, children’s books and translations. While he is today one of the most widely performed playwrights in the world je has also increasingly becomes recognised for his prose,” stated the Academy.

Some of Fosse’ best work includes Melancholia, Morning and Evening, Septology

The Prize carry an award of ten million Swedish kronor ($1 million). Laureates also receive an 18-carat gold medal and diploma at the Award ceremonies in December.
