NSCN-IM Sumi Region holds consultative meeting at Shoixe Village

Shoixe: Meeting condemns FMR, RIIN, SC verdict on Oting incident

The NSCN-IM Sumi Region National Workers Consultative Meeting was hosted by the Shoixe Village Council under Satakha Sub- Division, Zunheboto District on 18th October 2024. The prominent speakers at the event were Qhevihe Chishi Swu, Member Collective Leader, Zhehoto Awomi, Senior Kilonser and Kihoyi Swu, Senior Kilonser, a press release from the NSCN/GPRN informed.

Zhehoto Awomi, in his speech, hailed the recruitment practices during Lt. Isak Chishi Swu period, emphasizing the importance of consulting with parents, village council and church authority before recruiting new members. He also raised deep concern about the “increasing problematic elements” in the NSCN-IM such as drug dealings and anti social issues undermining its integrity. The press release also informed that the Senior Kilonser urged attendees to put God first in our daily life, uphold their responsibilities and work diligently for the betterment of the society, asserting that financial gain should not come at the expense of community values.

Kihoyi Swu stated that Nagas are not Indians and urged the congregations “not be frightened by the Indian agency on ‘Divide and Rule policy’ because the NSCN Govt. have deeply rooted in Third countries for any supports in any circumstances.”

Qhevihe Chishi Swu highlighted the importance of Naga freedom movement and cautioned against the Indian Government’s tactics that aim to undermine the Naga Unity. The Member Collective Leader said that it was concerning that the Sumi Apex body remains neutral regarding NSCN/GPRN IM. Further, he called for a renewed commitment to keep the Naga issue alive and prominent in peace talk.

The NSCN/GPRN stated that the meeting served as a vital platform for addressing significant challenges and fostering unity among the Sumi people, reaffirming their commitment to social, political integrity and cultural preservation.

The Sumi Region National Workers Consultative Meeting adopted resolutions and condemned the following policies of the Indians Government:

  1. FMR (Free Movement Regime)
  2. Supreme Court decision on Oting incident Case
  3. Deletion of “Naga” from the name of individual in the official record
  4. RIIN – Mechanism to divide the Naga society
  5. Sumi Region Reaffirmation to NSCN/GPRN Leaderships

The Meeting was chaired by Photo Kiho, CAO, Sumi Region and recorded by Hugheto Sumi, Secretary, Sumi Region. It commenced with an invocation by Rev. Nisheto Chishi, Pastor, Shoixe Village Baptist Church, welcome speech was pronounced by Kihito Zhimo, G.B, Hugheto Zhimo and Mughaho Zhimo G.B of Shoixe Village, followed by presentation of cultural song titled “Lejole” by the menfolk of the Shoixe village. NSWON, Sumi Region Chairperson, Intoli Achumi pronounced a short speech on ‘Unity and Oneness’ and the event concluded with vote of thanks by Vitoi Zhimo, Deputy Kilonser.
