With the intent to eradicate social impurities within the Naga society, the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) has issued directive to all the general Naga public and village authorities that with effect from 1 January 2023, all forms of Opium related activities like poppy (Opium) cultivation, opium smoking and opium purchase & sale will be declared as illegal and anyone indulging in any of the activities will be taken as anti-social and appropriate action will be taken against the offender/s.
“Given the magnitude of social problems and serious damage cause by the opium (Gani) to the Naga society, the NSCN/GPRN made this absolute decision to completely ban and eradicate opium in the Naga area,” it stated.
This resolution was adopted during the NSCN/GPRN Party Assembly on 10 October 2022.
In order to execute this initiative smoothly, the NSCN/GPRN has directed its central authorities, regional authorities and Naga army to oversee whether the ban is been carry out or not.
It also stated that for a healthier future of the Naga society and for the success of this endeavour, the President of NSCN K, Yung Aung has requested all the apex Naga tribe organisations, churches, students and youth, civil societies, community leaders, village councils and all the concerned Naga citizens, to take full responsibility to uproot this social evil from our Naga society.
