The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a district-wise weather outlook for August 30 to September 2, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and moderate to heavy rainfall across several parts of the state.

For August 30, Dimapur and Mokokchung have been placed under high alert, with thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall forecast for Dimapur, while Mokokchung may experience moderate to heavy rain. Thunderstorm and lightning risks have also been indicated for Chumoukedima, Longleng, Meluri, Mon and Tseminyu.

Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Niuland, Peren, Wokha and Zunheboto, while light rain is forecast for Kiphire, Kohima, Noklak, Phek, Shamator and Tuensang.

On August 31, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely over Meluri, Niuland and Wokha. Scattered light to moderate rain is forecast for Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Mon, Noklak, Peren, Phek, Tseminyu and Zunheboto. Longleng and Shamator have no active warning, while light rain is expected in Mokokchung and Tuensang.

The weather situation may intensify in parts of the state on September 1, with moderate to heavy rain likely in Chumoukedima, Kiphire, Meluri, Mokokchung, Niuland, Noklak and Wokha. Scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected across Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Mon, Peren, Phek, Shamator, Tseminyu and Zunheboto, while Tuensang may receive light to moderate rain.

For September 2, thunderstorm and lightning risks have been forecast for Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto. Light to moderate rain is likely over Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Noklak, Phek and Shamator, while Kiphire and Meluri may experience scattered light to moderate rainfall. No active warning has been issued for Niuland.

The NSDMA has advised the public to regularly monitor weather updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and NSDMA Weather Portal, follow official advisories and exercise caution during thunderstorms and periods of heavy rainfall.

Motorists have also been urged to remain particularly vigilant while travelling along vulnerable and landslide-prone stretches, in view of the anticipated rainfall.
