The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a district-wise weather outlook for August 11 to 14, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rainfall at scattered locations across the State.

According to the latest weather warning and rainfall probability information, several districts are likely to experience intermittent rainfall and thunderstorm activity during the four-day period.

On August 11, localized thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light rain are likely at scattered locations across several districts. Light rain is expected at a few places in Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Meluri, Mokokchung, Mon, Niuland, Peren, Phek, Shamator, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto. Kiphire, Kohima and Longleng may also experience localized thunderstorms and lightning with light rain at scattered locations.

On August 12, localized thunderstorms and lightning with light rain are likely at scattered locations in several districts. Dimapur and Longleng may receive light to moderate rain at scattered locations, while thunderstorm and lightning activity is likely over Kiphire, Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, Niuland, Tseminyu and Wokha. Other parts of the State may receive light rain at a few places.

For August 13, light to moderate rain is likely at scattered locations over parts of Nagaland. Localized thunderstorms and lightning are expected over Longleng, Mon, Niuland, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Wokha, with some of these areas likely to receive light to moderate rain. Light rain may occur at a few places in several other districts.

No active weather warnings are expected in Kiphire, Kohima, Meluri, Noklak, Peren, Phek and Shamator on the day.

On August 14, localized thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rain are likely at scattered locations in Longleng, Mokokchung, Tseminyu and Wokha. Mon may also experience similar weather conditions, while Zunheboto is likely to witness localized thunderstorms and lightning with light rain. Light rain is expected at a few places in several other districts.

In view of the forecast, the NSDMA has advised residents, particularly those living in low-lying, foothill and riverine areas, to remain alert to possible flooding, waterlogging, flash floods and landslides.

Motorists have been advised to exercise caution while travelling along hilly and landslide-prone stretches and to avoid crossing swollen streams or waterlogged roads.

The authority also urged the public to remain updated with official weather forecasts and advisories through the NSDMA Weather website and SAFER Nagaland App.
