The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed gratitude to schools and educational institutions, its federating units and subordinate bodies, tribal bodies, churches, civil society organisations, media fraternity, well-wishers and citizens for their support and participation in the commemoration of the 80th Naga Independence Day held at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima, on August 14, 2026.

In a statement, the Federation particularly appreciated educational institutions that facilitated the participation of students in the commemoration, saying their presence provided the younger generation an opportunity to learn about and reflect on Naga history, identity, heritage and collective aspirations.

The NSF said the participation also helped foster a sense of unity, responsibility and pride in a shared Naga identity. It placed on record its appreciation to its federating units and subordinate bodies for their mobilisation, dedicated efforts and active participation in the programme.

The Federation also acknowledged the support extended by tribal bodies, civil society organisations, churches, well-wishers and citizens, stating that their solidarity strengthened the spirit of collective responsibility and unity.

Reiterating its position on the Government of India’s directive concerning the playing or singing of the revised Vande Mataram during official functions and in educational institutions, the NSF expressed appreciation to federating units, subordinate bodies, schools, educational institutions, tribal bodies, churches and citizens who, it said, responded positively to its appeal.

According to the NSF, those who abstained from India’s Independence Day programmes in response to its appeal demonstrated their commitment to freedom of conscience, dignity, religious sensitivity and respect for diverse beliefs.

The Federation maintained that its position was not directed against any particular community, religion or nation, but was based on the principle that every individual’s conscience and religious belief should be respected.

Calling upon the Naga people to continue standing together peacefully and in solidarity, the NSF said the collective effort was necessary to safeguard the community’s dignity, identity, beliefs and collective conscience.

“Let us continue to stand together at all times as One People, One Nation, One Destiny,” the Federation stated.
