NSF’s ILRC to host national seminar on BEFR 1873

The Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC) of the Naga Students’ Federation is all set to host a Two-Day National Seminar on Awareness of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR), 1873, at Town Hall, Dimapur, Nagaland, on August 28 and 29.

Conceived as a national-level policy consultation, the seminar seeks to deepen awareness and understanding of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873, strengthen its implementation, and consolidate concrete recommendations for consideration and adoption by the Government of Nagaland.

The seminar will feature a distinguished panel of resource persons, including Prashant Bhushan and Shomona Khanna, Senior Advocates of the Supreme Court of India, academic experts from universities across the North Eastern Region, and the Home Commissioner, Government of Nagaland.

As preparations for the seminar enter their stage, guest speakers from New Delhi and other parts of the mainland India have already started arriving in Nagaland, while the remaining resource persons and delegates are expected to arrive tomorrow.

Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio has consented to grace the occasion and address the seminar on August 29, the second day of the programme. His presence and address are expected to provide important impetus to the deliberations and the broader policy consultation on strengthening the implementation of the BEFR in Nagaland.

The two-day seminar is expected to witness the participation of approximately 350 delegates from across Nagaland and the wider North Eastern Region. The gathering is expected to include Members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Tribal Hohos, civil society organisations, scholars, legal practitioners, administrators, academicians, civil society representatives, and participants and representatives from several North Eastern states.

The Federation has welcomed all participants to Dimapur and to a constructive and forward-looking national consultation on the effective implementation of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873.
