The National Service Scheme (NSS), Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Units 1 and 2 organised the Second-Phase NSS Orientation and Induction Programme on September 22. The programme was organised to familiarise students with the objectives, activities, values and responsibilities associated with NSS and encourage meaningful participation in community service.

The orientation programme held under the NSS motto, “Not Me But You,” emphasised the values of service, empathy, social responsibility, leadership, teamwork and civic engagement. Students were introduced to NSS as a student-oriented community service programme that seeks to connect higher education with society while promoting learning through real-life community experiences.

The programme also covered the major objectives and activities of NSS, including community outreach, awareness programmes, special camps, environmental initiatives, campus-based activities and student development. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of volunteers in identifying community needs, planning and participating in activities, serving responsibly and reflecting on their experiences and learning.

Programme Officers from all three NSS Units of Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Dr Ratan Kaurinta (Unit 1), Dr Rashmi (Unit 2), and Er Shanchamo Yanthan (Unit 3), were present during the programme and encouraged the volunteers to actively engage in responsible community service.

The programme further encouraged students to look beyond academic learning and apply their knowledge, skills and creativity for the betterment of society. It concluded with a renewed commitment among the volunteers to uphold the spirit of “Not Me But You” and contribute positively to the community through active and responsible service.
